Whats the difference between an impeachment and a recall ?

Of a government official.|||An impeachment requires a high crime from the politician and then its voted on by the legislature

Bill Clinton (impeached just not removed)

A recall is where citizens go through a process that has been codified by the legislature to remove an elected politician before their term ends.

Carlos Alverez (recalled with 88% of the vote)|||A recall is done by the voters.

(See Grey Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger)

An impeachment is a trial. Usually by Congress to purportedly address a crime against the State.

These can get pretty silly...

Ken Starr went overboard trying to impeach President Clinton.

Hopefully those days are behind the Republic.

The damage to the Union is not worth the attempt on lesser charges.

Richard Nixon also faced impeachment, and while I cannot condone his lying, cover-ups, etc.

I'm not certain that even that case was worthy of impeachment hearings.

But I am not a zealot.

I favor impeachment for treason, espionage, and not much else.

Best Wishes|||a recall is from the voters and a impeachment is from the legislative body|||When they impeach some - they just remove them for office - usually for some criminal act that violated the oaths he made when he took office,

and for all intensive purposes, you may call a recall a "revote" - because it's the voters who get "recalled" to see if they would still elect him|||An impeachment is a hearing by a legislative body to determine if an act has been committed by politician that makes them ineligible to continue to hold office. A recall is a secondary election that can be initiated via petition.
