Please answer these questions on Impeachment for American Government?

What is impeachment?

Which presidents have been impeached?

How many presidents have been found guilty at their impeachment trials?

In your opinion, what constitutes “high crimes and misdemeanors”?

I promise this is a survey I have to do for american goverement. Than I have to collaborate all the answers to make my answers. Please answer :)|||1.) Impeachment is a formal process in which an official is accused of unlawful activity and the outcome of which, depending on the country, can lead to the removal of that official from office or other punishment (1).

2.) Three Presidents have had impeachment procedures begun against them (2). They are:

Andrew Johnson

Bill Clinton

Richard Nixon*

*Now for Nixon one thing needs to be added: Richard Nixon knew, that his impeachment and removal from office was a near certainty. To avoid the humiliation of actually technically being impeached and removed from office, he decided to resign on August 9th 1974. Richard Nixon remains the only President of the United States that resigned from office.

A nice little twist to Nixon's story is, that after he resigned his VP (Gerald Ford) was sworn in to replace Nixon. Gerald Ford proceeded to pardon Nixon so Nixon couldn't be charged in court.

Also read (3) for more detailed information.

3.) In my opinion, the act of impeachment is something that needs to be taken very serious. Since procedures and institutions have a very important role to play in the functioning of the fabric of our system, it is imperative to not "abuse" rules and regulations for political gain. This would lead to the loss of meaning of these regulations and rules because the public would view it as political theater afterwards.

To interpret the meaning of "high crimes and misdemeanors" appropriately, one must study the documents that put this terminology in place to correctly understand the meaning. The terminology

cannot just be interpreted without context. Of course anyone is entitled to their personal opinions and I am sure they would differ greatly depending on who you ask. That's why context is the key here. That's why I would rather direct you to this link (4).
