It is rather like an indictment or an accusation of a specific crime. The matter is then tried in the senate. that is the federal process. States vary widely.|||The House of Representatives has the sole power of impeachment at the federal level (President, Vice President, and all other civil officers of the US). The US Senate has the sole power to try all impeachments.





Officials can be impeached for treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.|||A crime need to be committed first.|||House of Representatives.
