Do you think enough the actions of Johnson and Clinton warranted impeachment?

Had Nixon not resigned, what do you think would have happened?|||It was actually unclear whether Johnson had violated the Tenure of Office Act. The act's phrasing was murky, and it was not clear whether his removal of Stanton (a holdover from the Lincoln administration whom Johnson had not appointed) violated the Act. While the Act, by its terms, applied to current office holders, it also limited the protection offered to Cabinet members to one month after a new president took office.

In Bill Clinton's impeachment, the House Judiciary Committee hearings ended in a straight party line vote, there was lively debate on the House floor. The two charges passed in the House (largely on the basis of Republican support but with a handful of Democratic votes as well) were for perjury and obstruction of justice. The perjury charge arose from Clinton's testimony about his relationship to Monica Lewinsky during a sexual harassment lawsuit (later dismissed, appealed and settled for $850,000)

As for President Andrew Johnson, no I do not, but for Bill Clinton, I see it differently and he should have been impeached. As for Nixon he would have been impeached if they would have continued the proceedings.

L8r|||I think Johnson should have definitely been impeached and any and all laws he signed into law repealed automatically. Clinton committed several crimes, adultery, lying to a grand jury, perjury, he should have been made to leave after his impeachment. Obama should be impeached as well and any and all laws he signed into law automatically repealed as illegal. Nixon was a scapegoat from the start, and if the left did not force his hand he would have served out the rest of his term, and left.|||As to the 17th president on being impeached the answer is no. He was impeached because he fired members of the cabinet because they refused to follow his directions when it came to leading the country.

As to Mr. Clinton yes. He lied under oath to a Federal Judge which is a felony.

The charge of impeaching a president is for treason, high crimes or misdemeanors.

The high crime is perjury which I already said was a felony.

It was proved beyond a reasonable doubt that he did commit perjury and therefore his impeachment was justified.

Had Mr. Nixon not resigned he would have been impeached.

I lived through the times of Mr. Nixon and Mr. Clinton and both committed crimes against this country.|||I do not believe that Johnson should have been impeached

I do not believe that Clinton's action warranted impeachment, it was nothing but a $70 million witch hunt.

Nixon most likely would have been impeached due to using a government agency to break into a rivals political parties headquarters|||Not sure about Johnson but if anybody else had done what Clinton did - they would have gone to prison. (Perjury and obstruction of justice are felonies.)

And the Senate vote on impeachment for Clinton demonstrated how he was being protected by his political party. Not one Democrat voted to impeach. Contrast this to the number of Republicians who voted not to impeach.|||had nixon not resigned he would have faced possible jail time, a first for any president. as for bubba, his sex life has nothing to do with the job. it's government, not access hollywood.

i wasn't around for johnson's trial. sounds like that was a power play going on (he replaced the secretary of war against the dictates of the Tenure of Office Act).|||%26gt;"Do you think enough the actions of Johnson and Clinton warranted impeachment?"

Which Johnson are you referring to?

Clinton - NO!

I found this which I do agree with, I also remember the Nixon years. He did break the law. Nixon just made things worse by dragging it on and covering it up.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>|||Clinton - no.

Johnson - not enough information (are you referring to Andrew or Lyndon?)

If Nixon had not resigned I believe he would have been successfully impeached and removed from office.|||The actions of Johnson and Clinton did not warrant impeachment and that is why neither were convicted. Nixon would likely have been impeached and convicted and imprisoned if not for the resignation and pardon.

I also believe that if impeached and convicted Nixon likely would not have gotten the pardon.

Edit:

I am sorry but I have to point out some mistakes made by Sickness... First President Clinton never lied to a grand jury, in fact I don't believe he ever testitifed before a grand jury. He wasn't accused of that either. He was accused of lying in a depostion in a civil matter. Furthermore adultry is not a crime. The repeal of all the laws signed by an impeached and convicted President is not in the Constitution so that can't happen. You really need to get your facts straight before answering questions.|||Of course not Clinton's impeachment was pure politics, and the votes went right down party lines

The republicans were the ones threatening Nixon with impeachment

that was back when the party still had some intergrity
